Jenny with Sadie X Striker Puppies
The title of today's blog entry says it all. Yesterday, my brother Christopher and his girlfriend, Ashleigh, were leaving our house to head back to Columbus. Jenny (my girlfriend) and my mother walked out to the vehicle with them while I was tuned into a show on TLC about "Puppy Mills". After about twenty minutes or so I began to wonder what the heck was going on so I got up off the love seat and headed outside. No one was in the whelping kennel which is located in the barn, so I proceeded around to the front of the house and there was Mom, Jenny, and the female pup. They were snapping photos of course. So this grew into a photo session with the pups. I think Jenny, and Mom of course, are enjoying the pups more than I am. Sadie is doing a really fine job of taking care of them. Their eyes have been open for about a week or so, and they got their first round of worming at exactly two weeks old. They are trying to walk around quite a bit now and beginning to "play" amongst each other. I have really enjoyed these last couple of weeks and have spent a lot of time in the barn watching their actions/behaviors. My grandfather would definitley be proud! If you have read any of the pages about how I got into running beagles, my females page, and even some of my blog pages, you will see that it was my grandpa Jack that went with me to pick out my first two dogs, Sadie and Polly. This litter is out of Sadie, and she was Grandpa's favorite. He told me that she would come around and be the better dog, and to give her time. Sadie and Polly definitley have different qualities, but I enjoy having both of them here in my kennel. They are two of the most laid back dogs that you would ever know. I have had people at trials ask me if this was the "Polly" female that I had been doing so well with, and I would tell them yes, and ask them why. They said that they couldn't believe that a dog so laid back and "lazy" around the kennel and in the truck box, would be able to even get out and run a rabbit. However, you cut either Polly or Sadie loose better believe they are going hunting. Jenny and I recently took a job offer that both of us were offered. We will be teaching Computer classes through a Federal Grant in Coshocton and other possible surrounding counties. We begin our training starting Monday. Even though both of us have not landed full-time teaching positions, we are excited to have some sort of economic stability for the months to come. If offered a full-time teaching position, our current contract allows us to take the job offer, which makes it very nice considering that both of us are very passionate about being in the classroom. I plan on attending a couple of World Qualifying Events in the next few weeks. I have not been to a WQE yet this year and have no dogs qualified for the World hunt, which is going to be held in Grafton, West Virginia during the beginning of October. Well, this blog entry has been long, enough. Check back soon for more entries and more photos! Thanks for reading!
